Deputy Sheriff Jack Miller succumbed to a gunshot wound sustained the previous day while serving a narcotics search warrant at a home in the 1400 block of West 55th Street.

One suspect was killed in the ensuing shootout. A woman and a 17-year-old boy were arrested at the scene and charged with murder.

Deputy Miller had served with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department for 12 years. He was survived by his wife and two children.

37 years of life without my brother, still missing you Jack , it wasn’t supposed to be this way. I spent my morning watching your youngest grandson play flag football. So much fun seeing him wear #22. I imagined how proud and happy you’d be watching with me. Mom passed away recently otherwise she would have been right there with me. I imagine her with you and Dad smiling down on all of us. Rest in peace until we meet again. Love and miss you everyday Jack
