Salvatore J. Embarrato

Trooper Salvatore Embarrato was killed when his patrol car crashed through a guard rail and plunged down an embankment as he pursued a traffic violator on the New York State Thruway in Tarrytown, one mile east of the Tappan Zee Bridge toll plaza.

His patrol car experienced a malfunction, causing it to go out of control and through the guard rail. Although Trooper Embarrato was wearing a seat belt, he was thrown from the vehicle because the seat belt anchors detached from the frame of the car.

Trooper Embarrato was a U.S. Army veteran and had served with the New York State Police for three years. He is survived by his parents and two sisters.

Dear Sal, we never met. Actually, you passed before I was even born. I am your second cousin, Joseph. Your cousin Salvatore D'Amico's son. I was told nothing but great things about you as a person, a family member, and a State Trooper. Both, my mother and father adored you, and raved about you, your heart, and your character. May you rest in peace, cuz.
