Deputy Warden Oran Gant and Warden Alfred Perkins were killed in an automobile crash near Somerville, New Jersey, while returning from the Hackettstown Fish Hatchery.
Their department pickup truck was struck by a dump truck on Highway 29 (modern-day Route 22) east of N Bridge Street, and both men were fatally injured.
Deputy Warden Gant had only served with the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife for approximately three months. He was survived by his wife and two sons.
