Patrolman Arthur Morris was shot and killed while arresting two subjects for attempting to pass a forged check at Fortieth and Main Street in Kansas City.
While Patrolman Morris was placing one of the subjects in his patrol car, one of the subjects took his gun and killed him. The male and female suspects stole the patrol car and fled. Authorities found in their hotel room blank checks and a protectograph, which was used to print amounts on checks.
Fifteen days later, the suspect was tracked down. He committed suicide and left a confession note absolving the female subject of all crimes.
Patrolman Morris had been with the Kansas City Police Department for ten years. He was survived by his wife, two sons, and two daughters.
