Detective Sam Morgan was shot and killed in a shootout on West 12th Street while he and other officers attempted to arrest a subject.
The man was able to gain control of another officer's handgun and shot Detective Morgan. The subject was then killed in a hand-to-hand struggle with Detective Morgan.
Detective Morgan had served with the Little Rock Police Department for 15 years. He was survived by his wife.

My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
