Private Edward Merson was killed in an automobile crash while responding to reports that a victim had drowned after a car became submerged in Blue Pond, in Rossville.
His vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree near Muirkirk.
An empty car was later pulled from the pond and it was determined that nobody had been inside of it when it submerged.
Private Merson had served with the Prince George's County Police Department for two years. He was survived by his wife and six children.
