Dad,
It has been 37 years since you left us. As I sit here reflecting and getting ready to head to your grave site in Crocker, MO. to honor you for Memorial Day. It still is fresh in my mind. It still hurts so bad, to know your grandchildren didn't get to know you or their great grandpa, James Columbus Mayo Sr who served our country also in the Air Force. I miss you like it was yesterday.

I am reading your Bible this morning before writing this. You were talking about the Great Commission and our responsibility to reach the lost. I am so thankful that I know I and your grandchildren will get to meet you again in Heaven, if they all continue to follow in your footsteps of Faith in God.

James Dean Mayo is now 28 yrs old, Gabriel is 24, Jayden is 15, Jude is 13 and Jolie is 3. Oh, how you would love them all and they would love you!!

I wanted to take a moment and Honor you for just being my dad. As the Bible says in Exodus 20:12 "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you." It doesn't say, Honor them if they deserve it or have earned it, or were perfect and never made any mistakes. It just says Honor them!

So, I choose to honor you and teach your grandchildren how to honor you. For all the things you did teach us before you passed away. Hard work, perseverance, learning, sticking to the task at hand. But most importantly that no matter how many mistakes or sins we commit, we can always run to our real father, God. He will receive us with open arms!

Dad, Thank You for the man that you were and the man you were striving to become!
