Add to My HeroesRichard Roy Marler
Officer Richard Marler was accidentally shot and killed by a detective from the Dade County Sheriff's Office.
He was among a group of officers who were searching for a suspect who had shot three men one hour earlier. Officer Marler and a citizen had taken a concealed position in bushes along the Dixie Highway on the Deering Estate. The detective was in a car driving on the highway when he observed movement in the bushes. Thinking that it was the suspect, the detective opened fire and fatally wounded Officer Marler.
Officer Marler had served with the Miami Police Department for three months.

Your name is one of several Richard Roy Marler's throughout the centuries, from what I understand. Your son, my grandfather, was named, Richard Roy Marler, Jr., and you would be proud to know, his son, my father was named Richard Roy Marler, as well.
Your son (My Grandfather) told me of your life, but only from what he had been told. He never really spoke about his life as he was only a very young boy when your life had came to an end 104 years ago, yesterday.
Because your wife had passed away (I believe he said it was by childbirth), you had left your children in the care of family members, while you took a new career in the city of Miami. You were a train engineer before that, which I did not know but found in public record. Grandpa had a hard life without the love, guidance and understandings of his parents. He was a good man and believed in doing the right thing, as your life is a resonating testament to that cause.
"On Earth as it is in Heaven" is a blueprint that we can all contribute to when we think of toting the line, that not one has to carry the weight for so many when we all participate. It is a perfect blueprint that even a child can contribute to, and would lead the way in that pursuit of Happiness, with much fervor enthusiasm born in inspiration. After all, we are Americans!
Here more so than any other place upon this earth, we practice Freedom and Capitalism which unleashes the genius within us all. When we practice Faith in ourselves and our fellow Citizens and exercise a little initiative, and gratefulness for all that we have been granted and born into, mixed in with a heaping helping of gratitude to share with those who have needs, we lead the way in our sacrifices, so that one day, our sacrifices will never be as much as your own.
Thank you Great Grandpa, Grandpa and Dad.
In Honor and Gratitude,
Your
Great Grandson,
T. Marler
