Officer Mansfield was shot and killed at 2105 Greensboro Avenue near the A.G.S. Depot behind Tom Anderson’s restaurant by the brother of a fellow officer who was upset with the officer.
The suspect was tried and acquitted of the murder.
On August 30, 1914, the same suspect shot and killed Officer Wil Thrower under similar circumstances. The suspect was convicted of Officer Thrower's murder.
Officer Mansfield had served with the Tuscaloosa Police Department for 2 years. He was survived by his wife.
