Border Patrol Inspector Richard Lugo was killed in an automobile crash while he and another agent were en route from Yuma, Arizona, to Andrade, California, for an assignment.
One of the rear tires on their vehicle blew out on Levee Road, causing the vehicle to go out of control and crash into a canal.
Agent Lugo was a Korean War veteran and had served with the United States Border Patrol for nine months. He had previously served with the Tucson Police Department and Pima County Sheriff's Office. He was survived by a son also named Arthur Lugo, who followed in his father's footsteps and joined the U.S. Border Patrol.
