Patrolman Llewellyn Lowther was killed in a motorcycle crash in the town of North Adams around 1:00 a.m.
He was returning to the barracks after patrolling when he lost control of his motorcycle, trying to avoid hitting a skunk in the road. After turning a corner, he skidded off the highway and landed in a yard. He was transported to Plunkett Memorial Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Patrolman Lowther was a United States Army WWI veteran and had served with the Massachusetts State Police for two years. He was survived by his wife, three brothers, and two sisters.
