Add to My HeroesNathan "Nate" Lincks
Officer Nathan Lincks was killed when the police vehicle he was driving was struck head-on by a transit bus on West 10th Street.
Officer Lincks was en route to a Police Athletic League community event to coach the youth ball team when he noticed a young military man walking in the rain. The young man had just arrived by bus and was walking home. Officer Lincks picked the soldier up to give him a ride home in the opposite direction when the accident occurred.
As Officer Lincks and his passenger sat at a traffic light, a city metro bus swerved to avoid another vehicle that had pulled into its path. The bus crossed several lanes of traffic, skidding on the wet roadway, and collided head-on into Officer Lincks' vehicle. Officer Lincks was killed instantly and his passenger died one hour later at Wishard Hospital.
Officer Lincks had served with the Indianapolis Police Department for 17 years. He was survived by his wife and two young sons.

View all 29 ReflectionsI met your son Todd today. After talking about many things, Todd talked about you and part of your life. I never met you or anyone in your family, to my knowledge anyway, but you would be proud of the man Todd has become. Your son is incredibly proud of you, and after hearing about all you did for the community of Indianapolis, I am proud of you too. Still today, we need more police officers to truly uphold the SERVE part of their oath, not just as orders, but out of true compassion in their hearts, as you did that fateful day.
Thank you for protecting and serving the citizens and visitors of the City of Indianapolis and thank you for raising a son, who has turned into a good man, friend, and my neighbor. You would be pleased to know that Todd still holds true your same community values that you did.
