Add to My HeroesHenry Knapp
Marshal Henry Knapp was shot and killed with his own service revolver while attempting to serve a warrant in the Hopkinsville area of the city.
As he entered the boarding house he encountered a woman standing in the hallway. Several subjects, including the woman, held him at gunpoint. One of the men disarmed him and forced him to leave the house. He was then ordered back into the house where the man took his badge and the warrant, and then shot him in the head.
Marshal Knapp was taken to a hospital in Cincinnati where he succumbed to his wounds two weeks later.
The man and woman were both convicted of Marshal Knapp's murder and sentenced to life in prison. The woman was paroled in 1936. On March 30, 1960, Governor Michael V. DiSalle changed the man's conviction from first to second degree murder making him eligible for parole.
Marshal Knapp had served with the Addyston Police Department for two years. He was survived by his wife and three children and is buried at Maple Grove Cemetery in Cleves, Ohio.
