Marshal Clarence Kistner was shot and killed with his own weapon while struggling with a suspect outside of a tavern in nearby Farmersburg. The suspect was able to gain control of Marshal Kistner's gun and shot him. The suspect was then taken into custody by a deputy who was also struggling with the man. The man was convicted and sentenced to 20 years in prison.

On today, the 46th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice-not just for your Community but for our Country as well when you served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
