Police Officer Win Hunter was shot and killed after he and another officer tried to intervene in a fight at the Congress Club at 2404 N. 29th Street in Philadelphia.

When the officers tried to arrest the men around 3:00 a.m. for weapons violations, one of the subjects pulled out a gun and shot them both. The other officer was able to return fire and wound the shooter. Officer Hunter was transported to the Medical College of Pennsylvania Hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds. The other officer survived his wounds to his abdomen and left hand.
The suspect, who was an escapee from a halfway house, was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison. Another man was convicted of aggravated assault and weapons charges.

View all 27 ReflectionsOn behalf of the Hunter Rodríguez family, my brother Matthew Williams Hunter, and my nieces and nephews and my cousin Marie Hunter and her family and Myself and my three sons, We would like to thank you all for your kind words and the beautiful messages and memories on the wall . We are short one, my brother Gamil Winfred Ashley Hunter as he is no longer with us. I see how much he meant to you all, but he was so much more to me. I was his only daughter and the oldest of Matthew and Gamil. The three of us loved our dad and we live with that emptiness.
I realize this says he had a son and a daughter. He had two sons Mathew and Gamil and I and the list was immense.
Once again, thank you for the support and the love.
