View all 20 ReflectionsDear Granddad, as we do every year, we honor you on the anniversary of your ultimate sacrifice. I know you were looking down with such pride as you see the efforts by the New York State Troopers to keep the memories alive of those, like you, who have given the ultimate sacrifice. I am so honored to play a very small part in those efforts. A few years ago Trooper Diana Davis started what’s called the “Silent Partner” program. Every year I come over to the State Police Training Academy and I am honored to be able to hand out silent partner cards to the cadets in training. Those cards will be carried by the cadets, soon to be Troopers, for their career. A silent partner card with your photograph on the front and how you died on the back is carried by a number of Trooper‘s today. What an amazing idea to keep your memory alive. Again I cannot begin to tell you granddad the honor and the pride I take in being able to introduce you to the cadets that will carry your Silent Partner card for their entire career. Please keep your heavenly hand on their shoulders and guide them home safely every day of their career.
Your proud and loving grandson,
Marty Kerins Jr
