Patrolman Louis Jazwiecki was shot and killed while attempting to arrest two suspicious men at the corner of Erie Street and Walnut Street at approximately 8:30 pm.
When he told the men they were under arrest one of them produced a revolver and opened fire. Despite being wounded, Patrolman Jazwiecki returned fire and wounded the suspect as he fled.
Patrolman Jazwiecki was transported to St. Vincent's Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds at approximately 3:45 am the following morning. The suspect was apprehended several days later.
The 24-year-old subject was convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to life in prison on December 11th, 1918. He was paroled on March 16th, 1966.
Patrolman Jazwiecki had served with the Toledo Police Department for less than one year.
