Officer Alfred Jackson and Officer Richard Giguere were killed when the Bell 47 police helicopter they were in crashed shortly after 2 p.m. in the 700 block of Yuma Street, SE.
They were just clearing from a false burglary in progress call when the helicopter lost power and hit electrical lines. Officer Jackson was piloting the helicopter.
Officer Jackson was a Vietnam War Army veteran and had served with the Metropolitan Police Department for eight years. He was survived by his wife and two children. His wife also served with the department.
