Officer Charles Humphrey succumbed to injuries received three days earlier when he was knocked over by a heifer that had gotten loose from a slaughter house at about 1430 hours. Officer Humphrey was attempting to get citizens out of the way of the heifer on Market Street near the Pennsylvania Railroad Station when he suffered a skull fracture from hitting the ground.
Officer Humphrey was a U.S Army veteran and had served with the Harrisburg Police Bureau for 12 years. He is survived by his wife and daughter.
