Trooper Lee Huffman succumbed to injuries he received when he was struck by a vehicle on U.S. Highway 31 W, five miles north of Elizabethtown, on May 4, 1953, at 4:30 p.m.
He had just exited his police vehicle to help crash victims when a passing vehicle skidded on the wet road and struck him. He was transported to the United States Army Hospital in Fort Knox with head injuries.
Trooper Huffman was a United States Army WWII veteran and had served with the Kentucky State Police for two years. He was survived by his wife, son, stepson, his parents, and a brother.
He is buried at Zachary Taylor Cemetery in Louisville.
KY 218 in Metcalfe County was designated the Trooper Lee T. Huffman Memorial Highway.
