Trooper Byron Egelski was killed in an automobile collision while responding to a report of a rollover crash with injuries at 11:20 p.m.

Trooper Egelski was traveling west on Davis Road with his lights and sirens activated when his patrol car was broadsided by another vehicle traveling north on Range Road in Maryville. Trooper Egelski died at the scene. His partner, who was sitting in the passenger seat, suffered serious injuries.

The driver, a juvenile, was treated for minor injuries and was not issued a citation.

Trooper Egelski had served with the Michigan State Police for 4.5 years. He was survived by his parents and sister.

Im not sure how long you were with MSP 26 Pust but I sure do remember you bringing arrests into the County Jail. When I learned of your life ending so tragically my heart sunk; as did many. You and your family have remained in my daily prayers. Thank you for your service. God took you from us too soon but we are told to believe he takes the best first.
