View all 24 ReflectionsI was only 12 when my uncle was taken from us, and I never got the chance to truly know him. But even at that age, I understood that something terrible and unfair had happened. Uncle Jeff gave his life trying to protect others, doing the job he believed in, serving his community with quiet strength and unwavering courage.
As I’ve grown older, that kind of selfless bravery has stuck with me. The heroism in simply showing up, doing what’s right, and standing your ground, even when it’s hard or dangerous, is something I deeply admire. I may not have a lifetime of memories with him, but I carry his story now. I’ll never forget the cost of his sacrifice or the impact of his legacy.
