Assistant Chief Jesse Huskey was shot and killed at approximately 1:00 am while he and another officer were patrolling the Minton Flour Mill following a series of thefts had occurred at the mill during the previous week.
They observed three men at that location and attempted to make contact with them. The three men instead ran into a shed at the rear of the property. As the officers approached the shed, they were fired upon and Assistant Chief Huskey was fatally wounded. Three brothers were arrested, but found not guilty after several witnesses changed their testimony because of threats and bribes.
Assistant Chief Huskey had served with the Sand Springs Police Department for one year. He was survived by his wife and three children.
