It's been 20 years since my last reflection and I'm days from retirement. Chief Hartman's sacrifice is clearly inscribed in Columbia history and continues to inspire the next generation of officers. In 2023 for police week, a local Congressman memorialized his story into the Congressional Record. I often thought of him when walking past windows or serving mental health commitments, so his tragic demise helped to keep me and others safer.
