Lorenzo Arnest Gray

Police Officer Lorenzo Gray was shot and killed by a shotgun blast as he and his partner entered a hotel in the 2600 block of Pulaski Highway to investigate a report of a holdup.

Officer Gray managed to return fire, wounding the suspect's accomplice. Both men were apprehended as they ran from the hotel by a team of federal agents on an unrelated stake-out.

The gunman was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to 40 years in prison. He was paroled in 1986. On May 4th, 1993, he and three other paroled killers were arrested in Baltimore for operating a million-dollar-a-month drug operation.

Officer Gray was a United States Marine Corps veteran who served with the Baltimore City Police Department for three years. He is survived by his wife and daughter. His daughter later went on to serve with the Baltimore Police Department.
