Dalton Toy Garner

Chief of Police Dalton Garner was killed in an automobile crash while returning from an investigation.

His patrol car went out of control during a severe thunderstorm near Detroit, Alabama. He was thrown from the vehicle and trapped underneath the car when it landed in a ditch. He drowned as a result of flooding from the heavy rains.

Chief Garner was a WWII veteran who served in law enforcement for 23 years. He had previously served with the Marion County Sheriff's Department and the Weston Police Department. He was survived by his wife and child.

On today, the 60th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice-not just for your Community but for our Country as well when you served with the U.S. Army during World War II. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
