Marshal Elmo Frie was shot and killed while attempting to break up a fight between two gamblers. It is unknown why Marshal Frie was in the area, but his attention was caught by the sound of gunfire. He happened upon a fight that had spilled out from a saloon and when he demaned to know about the commotion he was struck two times in the leg and bled to death.
The suspect was apprehended and executed in April of 1900.
Marshal Frie was survived by his parents, wife, and two children.
