Patrolman Gerald Fackert was killed in a motorcycle crash at the intersection of 46th Street and Troost Avenue in Kansas City around 6:00 a.m.

When Patrolman Fackert and his partner, riding in the sidecar attachment of the motorcycle, turned onto Troost Avenue, they collided with a truck that had not stopped at the intersection. Both patrolmen were dragged a few feet before the truck could stop. They were transported to General Hospital, where Patrolman Fackert passed away from internal injuries later that afternoon. The driver was initially charged for Patrolman Fackert's death, but was exonerated by the coroner's jury.

Patrolman Packert had served with the Kansas City Police Department for over two years. He was survived by his mother, a sister, and two brothers.
