Sergeant Harry Crowley was shot and killed in the rear room of a soft drink parlor at 539 W Polk Street at about 10:59 pm.
Sergeant Crowley was shot as he was seated at a table by one of the two men who attempted to rob the establishment Despite being wounded he was able to return fire and killed one of the men.
The other subject was arrested on December 17, 1924, in Rockford, Illinois. He was returned to Chicago on December 18, 1924, and held without bail. He was convicted of Sergeant Crowley's murder on February 9, 1925, and was sentenced to life in prison. He was granted a new trial and acquitted on June 6, 1925.
