Officer Counts you were my dad’s partner and close close friend. Your wife Lucile remained a close family friend and even with my mother after dad died.
It was unfortunate that my dad and mom were on vacation visiting family in California when they opened the Los Angeles news paper and were shocked and saddened by the headlines of Oklahoma City Police Officer dies in automobile accident.
Your widow Lucile, who worked at the police station for years after your death and I believe was secretary to the chief of police for many years, following in her service to the community of Oklahoma City.
She along with Nelvada White, widow of your captain Loyd White, Vida Campbell, widow of detective Webb Campbell, would all come to our home in the early 1950s and they would take my mother and I downtown to go shopping. I was born in Dec 1948 so I was 2 1/2- maybe 3 years old.
Then all were widows and not that old but without any children from their marriages to their now deceased husbands.
I was too young then and for many years after until I realized why they wanted to come see me and my mother. Oh they were great friends with my mom and dad, my mom had been by their side during the difficult time of arrangements for their husbands funerals. They were hungry for the fun of playing with a young child. I’m so glad my mother and I were there for each of them.
Rest in peace Fred, you live on in the memories my parents shared with.
