Constable Charles Evans succumbed to injuries sustained four days earlier while he was directing traffic at the intersection of Main Street and Mechanic Street at about 9:30 pm.
The driver who struck him claimed to have been blinded by the headlights of oncoming cars. Constable Evans was taken to Millard Fillmore Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
A $50 fine and six month suspended sentence was imposed on the driver.
Constable Evans had served with the Springville Police Department for at least 14 years. He was survived by his wife, daughter, three grandchildren, and four siblings.
