Jerry Condo

Guard Jerry Condo succumbed to injuries sustained two days earlier during an escape attempt from the Centre County Jail.

He was locking prisoners in their cells at about 8:30 pm when two inmates rushed from the bathroom and attacked him. The inmates violently beat him over his head causing serious injuries. They then took his keys and fled from the jail along with three other prisoners.

Four of the escapees were arrested several days later. The two men who attached Guard Condo were convicted of murder in September 1904.

Guard Condo was a Civil War veteran. He was survived by his wife and several children.

On today, the 121st anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice-not just as a Law Enforcement Officer but for our Country as well when you served with the Union Army during the Civil War.
