Patrolman Peter MacDonald was struck and killed by a train as he walked to his post.
Patrolman MacDonald was assigned to relieve a foot post at the New York Central railroad tracks. After relieving the post, Patrolman MacDonald began to walk north on the tracks. He pulled out his earmuffs and put them on as he got about 200 feet from the crossing. Patrolman MacDonald continued across the tracks and was struck by the Detroit Special train. He was thrown about fifty feet and killed instantly.
Patrolman MacDonald served with the New York City Police Department for 20 years. He was survived by his wife and five children.
