Deputy Sheriff Harry Estay was struck and killed by a drunk driver as he and another deputy were standing on the edge of U.S. Highway 90 approximately one mile east of Boutte.
The two deputies had been patrolling the area in separate vehicles and had stopped to talk on the edge of the roadway. They were both struck by a speeding vehicle driven by a drunk driver. The driver was arrested and charged with negligent homicide.
