Police Officer Claude McCormick was killed in a motorcycle crash at the intersection of Far Hills Avenue and Harman Avenue.
He struck his head on the pavement after his motorcycle skidded on streetcar tracks. His injuries were initially believed to not be serious and he went home following the crash. The following day he went to the hospital and passed away as the result of a blood clot.
Officer McCormick was a U.S. Army veteran of WWI and had served with the Oakwood Police Department for four years. He was survived by his wife and mother.
