Deputy Sheriff Carlo Marion succumbed to gunshot wounds sustained on August 20th, 1920, when he was shot at the Horse Creek Mining Camp while attempting to arrest a man and woman for bootlegging.
Despite being mortally wounded Deputy Marion was able to return fire and wounded the subject in the knee. The suspect was tried twice, the result being a hung jury each time.
Deputy Marion was survived by his wife.
