Agent Thomas Greer suffered a fatal heart attack while assisting a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper respond to a suspicious person call.
He and the trooper had been riding together in the trooper's vehicle while conducting witness interviews as part of an ongoing investigation in Stoddard County. The trooper was dispatched to a farm just south of the U.S. 60 and U.S. 114 junction after a farmer called to report that a drunk man had locked himself inside of a barn.
When Agent Greer and the trooper arrived at the scene they had to walk across an extremely muddy gumbo field in order to reach the barn. As they walked across the field their feet became stuck in the mud, causing great exertion to make it to the barn. Just as they reached the barn Agent Greer collapsed. The trooper began CPR but was unable to revive Agent Greer. The suspected prowler was arrested for being drunk in public.
Agent Greer was survived by his wife and three children.
