Fadi Mukhlis Shukur

Police Officer Fadi Shukur succumbed to injuries sustained on August 4th, 2018, when he was struck by a hit-and-run driver on West McNichols Road near Stahelin Avenue.

He was assisting other officers with crowd control outside of a club at approximately 2:30 am when a vehicle struck him at a high rate of speed. The vehicle fled the scene, but the driver turned himself in a short time later.

The 19-year-old driver was charged with vehicular homicide and alcohol-related felony hit-and-run. On March 14, 2019, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Officer Shukur was a U.S. Navy veteran of the War on Terror and had served with the Detroit Police Department for 18 months. He is survived by his wife of six weeks, mother, and father.

My name is Student Police Officer Heksem. I’ve done some extensive digging into your story, & yet I can only process maybe a fraction of the shockwave your story brings.

You were young, with experience in the armed forces, newly married, with an amazing sounding honeymoon; fresh on the job with only 18 months on duty, and had a whole life ahead that was full of plans waiting to be fulfilled.

I feel strongly that someone took that away from you. The worst part of it is that it wasn’t only you that they took from. That someone also took from your wife, your family, your partner, your friends, the city, and your future. I truly pray that you rest easy, & may the ones that survived you have peace. I ask that you even watch over & protect other officers & me as I enter the profession that we love.
