Deputy Sheriff Millard Brock was shot and killed when he and another deputy were ambushed near the Leslie-Clay County line at 1 am.
A deputy had retrieved Deputy Brock's from his home to catch suspected bootleggers in the area. The deputies were on their way to arrest the men when two vehicles forced them off the road. The men opened fire with shotguns. Deputy Brock was killed, and the other deputy was wounded.
All six men, four of whom were brothers, were arrested and charged with murder. One was sentenced to 10 years.
Deputy Brock had served with the Leslie County Sheriff's Office for five years. He was survived by his wife and eight children. His granddaughter and great-grandson also went into law enforcement, with his great-grandson currently serving with the Kentucky State Police.
