Federal Prohibition Agent Albert Brown was shot and killed while making an arrest in Modoc County, California.
He and another agent had just bought four shots of liquor from a filling station attendant. When they attempted to arrest him, the man opened fire with a .25 caliber pistol, wounding both agents.
Despite his wounds, the other agent was able to place Agent Brown in their vehicle and drove him to the local hospital. Agent Brown died while en route to the hospital.
The suspect, 42, was arrested five days later and just two days later he was convicted of second degree murder and sentenced to 5 years to life in prison. He was paroled on March 20, 1935.
Agent Brown was survived by his wife and two children.
