Patrolman Fielden Collins was struck and killed by a vehicle at the intersection of 7th Street Road and Tennessee Avenue.
He and another officer had just arrested several subjects and had placed them in the patrol wagon when he was struck by a passing vehicle. His partner placed him in the wagon and transported him to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Patrolman Collins was a U.S. Army veteran and had served with the Jefferson County Police Department for six years. He was survived by his sister and four brothers.
