Detective Howard Murray was killed in an automobile accident on US Route 20, at Walnut Creek Hill in Fairview Township, while transporting a prisoner back to Aliquippa from Buffalo, New York.
The vehicle was being driven by the Aliquippa police chief when the crash occurred. The chief's brother, who had accompanied them, was also killed in the crash while serving as a Special Police Officer. The chief, the prisoner, and the occupants of the other vehicle were all injured.
Detective Murray was a U.S. Army veteran of WWI and served as a County Detective for seven years. He previously served as a Deputy Sheriff with the Beaver County Sheriffs Office for one year. He was survived by his wife and three kids.
