Patrolman Grover Wolf was shot and killed in the 700 block of Island Avenue after being confronted by a man he had dealt with earlier in the evening.
The subject had been drunk and was harassing a woman when Patrolman Wolf saw him and told him to go home. The man went home but returned to the area several hours later and located Patrolman Wolf.
The man confronted Patrolman Wolf, and a violent confrontation ensued in which Patrolman Wolf was shot. Despite being mortally wounded, Patrolman Wolf was able to return fire but did not strike the subject. The man fled the scene but was arrested a short time later and charged with murder. Patrolman Wolf was taken to Ohio Valley Hospital where he died later in the day.
The suspect was convicted of murder and sentenced to life. He was granted a new trial, convicted of voluntary manslaughter, and sentenced to 6 to 12 years.
Patrolman Wolf was a U.S. Army veteran of WWI and had served with the McKees Rocks Police Department for one year. He was survived by his wife and two young children.
He is buried at Mount Cavalry Cemetery in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania.

On today, the 93rd anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice-not just for your Community but for our Country as well when you served with the U.S. Army in Europe as a member of the 80th “Blue Ridge” Division which the 318th Infantry Regiment was a part of fighting the Germans during World War I.
