Deputy Constable Frank White was shot and killed by federal revenue agents in a case of mistaken identity.
He and a Poinsett County sheriff's deputy were raiding a still overnight when several federal revenue agents arrived to raid the still as well. Neither group of officers knew the other group would be conducting a raid.
The two groups of officers mistook each other for moonshiners and exchanged gunfire. Deputy Constable White was seriously wounded. He was transported to a hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, where he died the following day.
Deputy Constable White was survived by his wife and six children.
