City Marshal Floyd Spencer succumbed to a gunshot wound sustained the previous day while attempting to arrest a drunk man.
The 53-year-old subject who shot him was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison. He was paroled in 1960.
Marshal Spencer had served with the Boynton Police Department for two years. He was survived by his wife, two daughters, and five sons.
