Police Officer Moses Walker was shot and killed while attempting to take police action while off duty shortly before 6:00 am.
He had just finished his shift at the 22nd district station and was walking to a bus stop after changing into civilian clothes. He was at the intersection of North 20th Street and Cecil B. Moore Avenue when two men started following him in a suspicious manner. He attempted to take evasive action to avoid an encounter, but the men caught him and announced a robbery.
As he drew his weapon to take action against the men, he was shot in the chest, stomach, and arm. The entire incident was captured on several surveillance systems.
Both subjects were arrested within several days. On July 2, 2015, the shooter was sentenced to life.
Officer Walker had served with the Philadelphia Police Department for 19 years. He is survived by his five siblings.

View all 254 ReflectionsAs a young white guy (19 when hired by PPD in 2001) I was assigned to the 23rd district before it integrated into the 22nd. It was tough being assigned in north Philly! Many, many nites we spent together doing safe streets & other stuff. Although kind hearted, you weren't one to mess around. You taught me how to be a man, a good honest cop & how to communicate with people in the community. Always giving, always smiling. I had just said goodbye to you that morning & asked you if you needed a ride to which you told me no you were fine. That has wore on me over the years, maybe if I was more assertive idk. You were truly one of a kind, forever loved & missed my friend. Thank you for everything. BTW even though you know already up there I did start attending church again too like I promised you that I would. I'll see you soon again one day brother.
