Captain Hugh Lee suffered a fatal heart attack several hours after assisting at the scene of a large riot in Roxbury in which Patrolman Adolph Butterman had been shot.
He was transported to a local hospital after collapsing at his home at 61 Farragut Road the following morning. He remained in the hospital until passing away two days later.
Patrolman Butterman died from his wounds six weeks later.
Captain Lee had served with the Boston Police Department for 30 years. He was survived by his wife. A lifelong bachelor, he had married the year before he died.
