Border Patrol Agent Lee Bounds was killed in an automobile crash while on patrol two and a half miles west of Animas, New Mexico on State Route 9.
His Jeep ran off the road, and when he attempted to steer back on the road, the Jeep flipped over, throwing him from the vehicle.
Agent Bounds was a United States Army veteran and was assigned to the Lordsburg, New Mexico, station, serving with the United States Department of Justice - Immigration and Naturalization Service - United States Border Patrol for three years. He was survived by his wife, stepson, stepdaughter, parents, brother, and two sisters.
