Patrolman Kip Boulis drowned in the Maumee River, near the Maumee-Perrysburg Bridge, while attempting to rescue boaters who had been thrown into the water when their boat capsized at 9:40 pm.
He and a Maumee police officer both dove into the water to attempt to rescue the man and three children who were clinging to the boat. The other officer was able to return to shore, but Patrolman Boulis went under the surface and drowned. His body was recovered at 1:15 am.
Patrolman Boulis was a United States Marine Corps Vietnam War veteran and had served with the Perrysburg Police Department for eight years. He was survived by his mother, father, grandmother, two brothers, and a fiancee.

I only met him once or twice, but I remember he played catch with me in Perrysburg on one of those meetings.
