Detectives Amanda Haworth and Roger Castillo were shot and killed while serving a felony warrant on a man wanted for murder.
The detectives, along with two other members of a regional task force, had gone to a home near the intersection of NW Seventh Avenue and 69th Street. Upon making contact with an occupant of the home, someone inside immediately opened fire, striking Detective Castillo and Detective Haworth. Another detective on the scene returned fire and killed the suspect.
The suspect had just been released from prison.
Detective Castillo succumbed to his wounds at the scene. Detective Haworth was transported to a local hospital, where she passed away during surgery.
Detective Haworth had served with the Miami-Dade Police Department for 23 years. She is survived by her son, partner, parents, step-parents, and two sisters.

However, on the bright side, he won't be a bother to anyone else again since one of your officers was able to neutralize him and put him in the ground, as he was a demon that should've been put down a long time ago. And on top of that he was just released from prison prior to your passing, and normally some would think he would have a change of perception on life and change, but as it turns out, that wasn't the case. But atleast now society is a bit safer with less people like him roaming around, as he was one of those kinds of people who knew nothing but violence and was a threat. What bothers me is the fact he didn't just murder an officer/detective, but he took away a mother, a loved one, a daughter, a sister, and a woman who was trying to make her community safer by putting people like him in jail and solving cases at the same time with your career as a detective in the city of Miami-dade. I think despite all of that, it still won't effect your legacy and your reputation. To have a career in law enforcement for over 20 years like yours is something that takes alot of bravery and courage to have, and you had that in you to protect and serve the people of Miami-dade, as you were also to help families that had cases that needed to be solved, and with you being a detective, you were able to bring a peace of mind to those who couldn't rest at night knowing that a murderer was out there as they harmed their family in some way, since Florida is known for alot of murder cases. And considering the man who killed you was also wanted for murder, that means that he tore a family apart, and with that, he couldn't accept responsibility for his actions as he was rebellious. Honestly, i think it's best that man was put in the ground, because i think that even if he was arrested and thrown in jail, he only would've got out and done what he did again since he clearly didn't learn the first time, since he fell down that pit of crime and despair. However, i'd like to try and focus on the positive side of things. For one, as mentioned earlier, you were an officer for well over 20 years, meaning that you spent 20 years making a difference and impacting lives in a positive way, and if that doesn't describe a fraction of how good you were at your career, i'm not sure what is since not many people in this world are able to pull it off. Another thing i'd like to mention is that i'm sure even as of now, your story is still talked about and you're remembered, as you won't ever be forgotten by those who knew you, even those who learn about you and your story. Although it's been some time, i'm sure that your son has gotten old enough to learn about who his mother was, since his mother was a hero and public servant, and was more than just a brave woman as words can't describe how courageous you were. And although i never personally knew or met you, i think that you were a great person to meet and talk to, since you were somebody the public could trust and get to know, since you were well-liked by many and recognized by those who have met you. There is alot of things i could go on about the man who took you and Mr. Castillo's lives, but for now, i think it'd be best to acknowledge that he's gone now, and you and your partner have been avenged in death, as i've forgot to mention. I think that had that 3rd detective not been there, there wouldn't have been vengeance since he most likely either would've gotten away, or he would've taken his life like a coward, but rest assured, he was put down as he should've. But as of now, may you and your partner rest in peace, knowing that your service as an officer and detective is appreciated, and that no matter how long it's been, your story and legacy will never be forgotten, despite it being 14 years since this vile tragedy occured. I'd like to believe that as long as your name is said and you're remembered, you won't truly be dead as you live on in the hearts and minds of others, and that your son will carry you in his heart as he goes on in his life and moves on, knowing his mother was a hero. Rest Well Mrs. Haworth
